RST X-2

Given the continued success of the RST™ X-1, we knew the next ball in the series using the Roto Star Tour Core was going to need a special coverstock wrapped around it as well. So, after countless tests involving multiple players of different styles, we determined that the eTrax™ pearl material gave us the type of reaction we were looking for, but we wanted something a little more while still using that same chemistry. So, the R&D team went to work changing the ratios and other variables until we settled in on the NEW eTrax™ PLUS Pearl Reactive formula that provides a larger footprint throughout the entire lane without reducing the responsiveness to friction down lane. Creating yet another viable pearlized coverstock option for the Roto Grip family of balls.

RST Core

Professional bowlers like to see continuous motion down lane with minimal deflection as the ball enters the pocket due to their rev rates usually being on the higher side. This logic was the basis of development by the R&D team as they looked to create a core that would maintain dynamics after drilling in order to maintain a higher level of core torque down lane. The larger mass at the base of the core does indeed create that. Especially since when drilled, the thumbhole will always end up in the void area not really affect the bottom mass of the core. Thus, making this core a “Tour Level” type core design better known as the Roto Star Tour Core (RST™ Core).

eTrax PLUS Coverstock

Cleaner through the front of the lane – CHECK! Provides traction throughout the mid-lane – CHECK! The most responsive eTrax coverstock down lane we have ever created – CHECK! The eTrax PLUS coverstock material is the most advanced version of the eTrax chemistry we have ever concocted. After countless hours of testing on the lanes paired with mixing, re-mixing and adjusting in the R&D Lab, we found a way to enhance the overall performance of this material by changing ratios both up and down in the chemistry in order to create this overall “stronger” version. Thus, making this cover more aggressive and responsive than the original eTrax covers, but not as early and smooth as the MicroTrax™ covers.

Like a Modern Hy-Road Pearl!
Don't get me wrong, the Hy-Road Pearl still pulls its weight, but the RST-X2 has a bit more strength to combat the modern oil volumes. If you loved your Hy-Pearl when it came out the way I did, the X2 is the modern version. The fact is, oil volumes have increased quite a bit since the Hy-Road Pearl was first released and the X2 has the cover and the core to handle it. 4K-Fast is great on it too!

RST X-2 by Roto Grip Rick
Roto Grip RST X*2 - Layout: 50 x 7 x 50 - 1500 grit polished
Ball test conditions: Practiced on 44ft THS on SPL and 46ft THS on older HPL
The next evolution in ASY cores have gotten a new and exciting addition -- The RST X*2 !!!
After drilling two different laid out RST X*1s, I leaned towards drilling a longer pin to PAP for the X*2. So with that approach to layout, surface of the panels and patterns, I went for my first ever 7 inch P2P layout. Well, the ball retained a huge amount of energy, super clean in the middle and near the end of the pattern and a sweet angle into the pocket with attacking the pattern with open and closed angles. I was skeptical that having a longer than 6 inch pin would cause the ball to not have any recovery, but it was surprisingly strong with a good strong reaction. The roll reminded me of the Hyper Cell with a little weaker reaction. Will be a great replacement for bowlers looking to replace the Hyper Cells, UC2s, or Idol Pearls.

Review:
The new Roto Grip RST X-2 is awesome! I try not to overstate anything in my reviews but this ball is just so good! The RST-X2 is the strongest and most angular polished ball I have rolled probably ever. The look of the ball is very nice also. This ball is much stronger than my UFO Alert and more aggressive on the back end. The carry and drive through the pins is excellent. This ball took a while to gain momentum at our shop but as the word got out and more went down the lane the demand is steadily growing. I look forward to seeing the ball in multiple hands at our upcoming Ball Demo. I have a feeling I better stock up. I have taken the RST-X2 to multiple houses and shots and the results have been good everywhere. This ball will work on a house and a sport shot easily as long as there is a decent amount of oil. I do not get any squirt on oil with this ball due to the strong cover enhancements Roto Grip has made. Overall I am very excited to be rolling this ball and expect some big numbers with it.

Summary:
The RST X-2 is Strong and Angular.
The Ball has great back end and hit.
The X-2 is a fun ball to roll.
This ball seems to work for many different styles of play.

Terrific ball
I just bought the ball yesterday and this ball destroyed the lanes on my first 3 games. Very clean through the lane, goes through the pins cleanly. There were times I missed my mark just a two boards or less to the right and it still struck. Or missed to the left and it held its line and still struck. I love this ball. Finished the night with a 748 series. If anyone is looking for a nice clean ball reaction down lane and a strong backend this is the ball for you and for bowlers that have slow to mid rev rates like me. Roto Grip are my favorite bowling balls to throw and this ball is definitely going to be coming with me on tournaments and leagues.

RST X-2 review by Mike Craig
I drilled the X2 75 x 5 x 20. I have lightly touched the surface with a 3000 pad to get some of the shine off.
X2 review: This is a pearl version of the X1 and it has some of the same motion except further down the lane. My X1 was a little lazy at times and lane shined fairly easy. When I did hit it with 2000 abr, other balls like the PROTON PHYSIX or REALITY were much better looks. The X2 I compared to my DARK CODE, ZEN, and RUBICON UC2. Compared to the DARK CODE, my X2 is less violent off the spot. The DARK CODE can really go sideways on me with my slower speed. The X2 was more forward at the spot. Some of that is the 20* back angle. When I drill asyms with this back layout, they get forward on me earlier and can control the break point. Compared to the ZEN, the X2 is more push and more rounder at the spot. The ZEN is my go to ball when I want to get thru the fronts with good motion that almost never misses the spot. For me, the X2 is a little longer but my ZEN also has 2000 on it at all times. I can see these 2 playing off each other in my rotation. Compared to the UC2, the X2 is earlier and slightly stronger. My UC2 is the go long/finish later look in my bag and the X2 could be the option when I am getting too much length with the UC2.
