Love Affair
Have used this ball since 2008. People get after me saying I should use higher weight, less radical, yada yada.
Wouldn’t change it if I could. However, new rule allowing only dry towel to wipe this ball is a real bummer. Even USBC ok’d a wet cleaner. Turns out the LANE changes the BALL condition. I truly love this ball. Only 2 things I haven’t accomplished with beloved SureFire: a 7-10 split pickup & a 300 game. Did find a Storm “pearl,” possibly a great great grandchild, the Matchup. That hook at 55’ is a problem for me after 11 yrs. with my SureFire. But . . . I know I can’t use my SureFire anymore, anybody who thinks that you can clean this ball with a dry towel isn’t bowling with a full rack. The SureFire had some skid but with an oily ball that became a 50’ uncontrollable slide. I’ll happily practice with it but have had replace it for league & tournament play. Did make me cry. The SureFire did exactly what you wanted provided it left your hand correctly. Can’t say that about any other Storm I’ve used since then. I haven’t bothered with any other manufacturers since Day One with this ball, it worked so well with my lefty style. Replacement a very nice ball but it’s not a roller, at least it skids ok. Have convinced a lot of bowlers to use this ball in particular, any Storm if they couldn’t get a SureFire. Mine’s a rare 11 lb. for a Premier Line & I wish I could get this ball’s characteristics with a regular reactive coverstock. The hybrid reactive stuck to the lane well & I miss that most of all. That & being able to throw a 200+ game every month without having to try for a speed over 14 mph for a strike made bowling a lot more fun. And so my friends, I’ve got a terrific ball living in either my locker or my double Storm ball bag for tournaments. I’m going to dread using it without a wet cleaner, all a dry towel does is move the oil all around that ball, oil doesn’t generally come off without a little ReactaClean. Which means I can’t properly clean it til my Series is 100% complete. Sigh.
