REALITY CHECK

The ALL NEW S84 Beta Hybrid Cover was designed to complement the S84 Response Cover. This revolutionary material reduces the microscopic pore sizes while maintaining the “teeth” that its predecessor became famous for. S84 Beta offers a similar overall hook potential versus S84 Response, but a vastly different backend shape. Paired with the Disturbance Asymmetric Core, the Reality Check will offer the most angular reaction ever for the 900 Series!!

DISTURBANCE ASYMMETRIC CORE

The Disturbance Asymmetric Core utilizes a modified scutoid geometric shape. This eccentric shape has a base of 6 sides and an apex of 5 sides. The elimination of the 6th side as you move vertically up the weight block creates the perfect amount of asymmetry. This shape also provides the RG/Diff values that all bowlers demand by utilizing a smaller amount of space within the outer core. When you put all of this together…we have created a truly unique and never before seen reaction to the 900 Series.

S84 Beta Coverstock

The ALL NEW S84 Beta Cover was designed to complement the S84 Response Cover. This revolutionary material reduces the microscopic pore sizes while maintaining the “teeth” that its predecessor became famous for. S84 Beta offers a similar overall hook potential versus S84 Response, but a vastly more angular backend shape.

900 Global Reality Check!!
The 900 Global Reality Check is extremely underrated!!! Very responsive motion on the backend for all styles of bowlers. I’ve drilled many for customers and myself and neither have been disappointed yet!

Tame that wet-dry house shot with the REALITY CHECK
The 900 Global REALITY CHECK is not at all what I expected it to be — and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The REALITY CHECK features the Disturbance Asymmetric core over the S84 Beta Hybrid that comes 4K Fast as the box finish.

The ALTERED REALITY also had the Disturbance Asymmetric core, but over the S84 Response Pearl. And the result was a ball that excelled curving around a house shot, but that I couldn’t play direct with.

So I figured the REALITY CHECK would be a little stronger version of the ALTERED REALITY, still an out-and-back ball but not quite as much.

Instead, it’s a ball I haven’t been able to find consistent reaction with trying to curve it, but that works well playing direct up the oil line on a house shot.

I chose a pin-up strong drilling for my REALITY CHECK that was almost exactly the same as my ALTERED REALITY. With my PAP of 4 7/8 over and 5/8 up, the numbers are 5 3/8 pin-PAP, 4 1/4 MB-PAP, and 1 5/8 pin buffer. (The Disturbance core numbers are nearly identical for 14, 15 and 16 pounds, so my review should apply for all those weights.)

I used my REALITY CHECK on a house shot, and the Del Ballard 34 and Dick Weber 45 patterns in practice at Ten Pin Alley in Fitchburg.

On the house shot, I couldn’t control the break point trying to hook it: one time it would start up too early and the next time it would go too long and not turn the corner.

But when I squared up and tried going hard and straight up the oil line around 10-board I suddenly had hold for high flush and could get it right and have it recover without jumping high. And it rolled strong through the pins, digging out 10-pins more often than not.

Ballard and Weber are the two patterns I used in the PBA50 and PBA60 tournaments I bowled in in Jackson, Michigan last month.

I was only bringing 12 balls and the REALITY CHECK ended up being the last cut from my arsenal, as it wasn’t strong enough for Weber 45 and I had some good-looking options on that pattern and I couldn’t square up or swing it on Ballard 45.

In retrospect, I might have used it going fairly square on Ballard 34, as the pattern played tighter at JAX 60 then it did at Ten Pin Alley.

The REALITY CHECK showed good reaction with a direct line up around 10-board in the SSBA senior tournament in Clinton, Iowa, on Aug. 28, but after consecutive 10-pins and knowing it would be high scoring, I switched to a ZEN SOUL and then a REALITY and WOLVERINE DARK MOSS. Those last two balls carried me to the top seed by more than 100 pins, though I lost the title match 258-236 to Jim Howard.

I intend to keep bringing the REALITY CHECK to house shot tournaments, as well as medium Sport shots because I believe it has the potential to be a valuable piece for me on those.

It looks like it will be most valuable on wet-dry house shots using a direct angle — a look that can be hard to find with my moderate speed.

I have not changed the cover because I want to get a better handle on it at 4,000 Fast before taking it down or shining it.

My hunch is that taking it down to perhaps 1,000 would enable it to easily handle more oil (but I have the REALITY already) and shining it might open up curving angles (but I have the ALTERED REALITY already).

It’s hard to find a comparison for the REALITY CHECK, but it somewhat reminds me of the Storm INCITE, though weaker, or the Roto Grip WINNER SOLID.

I think any player seeking the reaction I’ve described would find good use for the REALITY CHECK. Bu if you’re the kind of person who loves to play a sweeping hook, it might not be for you.

Review:
The new Reality Check is an excellent ball. The way the Reality Check digs out the corner pins is almost like cheating. I carry more off hits with this ball than I deserve. I was a big fan of the Altered and even though this has a different reaction I like it just as well. I have the 4K Fast finish on this ball from the factory and it has the look and feel of a slight polish. The Reality check reads the lane a bit sooner than I expect from a polish but has a more angular finish than I antisipated. I have already had some nice games and sets with this ball. I have a few bowlers shooting higher than their regular scores with the Reality Check also. This ball seems to fit many styles of play. I think I will drill another soon and sand it to 2K which should put more teeth on this already strong ball. I would put this ball below my Gem and Infinite Physix in total hook. Even though this is a strong ball I have not had to put it away too quickly because it rolls great and carries as you move inside. This is definitely a great ball and the motions the Storm family of balls has been generating lately are very good and diverse.

Summary:
The Reality Check blends hook and backend nicely.
The 4K Fast finish works nicely on this ball.
This ball carries the corner pins like a champ.

CHECK this one out!
900 Global Reality Check
Layout: 60 x 2 x 70
Finish: 4k FAST
Lane types and pattern types: HPL lane panels with 48ft THS pattern and SPL panels with 46ft THS.

Since I added a longer pin Asyms in my bag earlier this summer with the very versatile Storm Infinite Physix, I decided to go back to my normal P2P layouts that I normally use Asyms pieces, like the all new Reality Check. When myself and Mike Sinek saw this core, we were truly stoked about it. Reminds us of an older line from Roto Grip that we both had great success with a “few” years ago. We texted and called each other to talk about the new Disturbance core and how it will fit into the Global line very well. The Reality was a good all-around Asyms for me, and the Altered Reality was really sharp and crisp for me, most of the time on THS, it was too much. Then the RAD R&D guys at SPI came up with the ultimate solution, developing a cover similar to the S84 response cover that still gave great length, but with a stronger amount of backend shape. On the lanes I was quite cautious at the start knowing how wicked the new Infinite Physix was, but once I got more and more shots with the Reality Check, I realized it was quite surprising “calm” in the middle part of the lane, less angle then the Infinite Physix and also was able to move anywhere on both house patterns and felt comfortable making good shots over and over again. I was able to assist in three SPI Matchmaker events in three different states, three different lane types and length of patterns, and by far the Reality Check was the most asked for ball in all three events, from the 2 handed youth all the way up to the 72 year old that was getting back into bowling after several years of being out of the sport, it was the BEST versatile Asym ball I have had the pleasure to drill and use.

NEW 900 Global Reality Check
900 Global Reality Check
Layout: 5 x 4 x 2 Storm Vector Layout
Rev Rate: 325 rpm
Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume)
Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center
Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane

The 900 Global Reality Check utilizes the S84 Beta Hybrid pearl coverstock and proven Disturbance core used in the original Reality. The Reality Check will fill the No. 5 slot in your 6-Ball tournament arsenal. We tested on a 3 day old house shot so it was not the ideal conditions to test it on. I see the Reality Check shining on those medium to heavy oil patterns where you can keep your angles straighter. I do believe you could add a little Reacta Shine so the Reality Check could be used on light-medium pattern. The Disturbance core wants to roll early so stability will be a strong point for the Reality Check. #Stormnation
