Bowling News USA - August 6, 2014 Thailand Event Will Finalize 2014 World Bowling Tour Rankings; Belmo Just 17 Points Off Lead, Kulick Has Comfortable Lead on Women's Side

WBTLogo.jpgWith one event remaining, the 2014 World Bowling Tour schedule will come to a close later this month with the top three men and top three women in the rankings earning spots in the World Bowling Tour Finals.

Most of the spotlight will be shined on the men's division, which offers plenty of opportunity for players to still make the WBT Finals. The women's side will also have a little drama, but two players have already locked in spots.

The WBT Finals will be contested the first weekend in November in Las Vegas as part of the Professional Bowlers Association's World Series of Bowling VI. The finals will air on national television in the United States.

2014EBT11MikaKoivuniemi.jpgThe world's best players will descend upon Bangkok for the WBT Thailand event from Aug. 18-25 to finalize the rankings. Finland's Mika Koivuniemi (pictured left) holds the lead in the men's rankings by just 17 points heading into Thailand.

201213PBAJasonBelmonte3.jpgKoivuniemi has totaled 555 points and leads Australian two-handed bowler Jason Belmonte (right), who is currently second with 538 points. Sean Rash of the United States is third with 534 points, andDominic Barrett of England is fourth with 507 points.

With 50 points going to the winner in Thailand, all four players are in contention to make the WBT Finals.

2014EBT04KellyKulick.jpgOn the women's side, things are a little bit more stable with Kelly Kulick (left) of the United States far ahead of the rest of the players with 683 points. Liz Johnson (right) of the United States is also assured a spot in the WBT Finals with 459 points.

2014EBT08LizJohnson.jpgSandra Andersson of Sweden has 396 points and could still be caught by Singapore's Jazreel Tan, who is fourth with 351 points, and Missy Parkin of the United States, who is fifth with 346 points.

Like the men, the top female player in Thailand will earn 50 points.
The World Bowling Tour is made up of various events around the world and players earn points based on how they finish in each event. The current points system is based on a continuous two-year cycle, so points include every event from 2013 and 2014 with one event remaining.
