Bowling News USA - July 24, 2014 Dom Barrett Takes Over Qualifying Lead at Dream-Bowl Palace Open; Palermaa and Williams Round-Out Top-10

2014EBT11DominicBarrett.jpgFresh off his victory in the San Marino Open last weekend, nine-time European Bowling Tour titlist Dominic Barrett (pictured left) of England posted a 1375 series Wednesday afternoon to take over the qualifying lead in the Track Dream-Bowl Palace Open by Erdinger.

Barrett averaged 229.17 in Squad 6 at Dream-Bowl Palace in Munich, Germany, with games 223, 236, 245, 196, 268 and 207. The leaders of Squads 1-7 receive a 250 Euro bonus.


Previous leader Hansi Glasl (pictured below left with tournament organizer Manuel Mrosek, right), Germany, slipped to second place with 1349. Carsten Warming Hansen of Denmark was next to Barrett to move into third place with 1321.

Daniel Hellmich, Germany, fell two spots to fourth place with 1301 and was followed by Thomas Larsen (below left), Denmark, who led Squad 7 with 1293.

Rounding out the top 6 was Christian Birlinger, Germany, with 1292. The top 6 of Squads 1-7, who will not finish in the top 50 at the end of the qualifying, will earn automatic berths into Sunday's Final Round 1. 

Rounding out the top 8 were Tobias Börding, Germany, and 13-time EBT champion Osku Palermaa, Finland, with 1287 and 1283, respectively. The top 8 qualifiers will earn two byes.

Laura Beuthner, Germany, is the best of 12 women in the 91-player field from 14 countries in 11th place with 1266 including 48 pins women's handicap. Viktor Dementiev, Ukraine, currently holds the 50th and last place to advance directly to the finals with 1139 and an average of 189.83.

Qualifying resumes Thursday, July 24, with Squads 8-10 scheduled for noon, 4 and 8 p.m. CEST.

The top 50 qualifiers plus the top 6 from Squads 1-7, the top 4 from the Desperado Squad and the top four from a "High-Low" list will advance to the finals
