Three Major Tournaments Attract Bowling's Best And Their Fans To The City of Gardens

ARLINGTON, Texas - Rockford, Ill., will be the center of the bowling world July 19-25, when the best women bowlers in the world compete in the BPAA Women's All Star Tournament andBowling's Senior Women's U.S. Open presented by Storm at The Cherry Bowl, and parents and children team up to bowl for $70,000 in scholarships in the 39th Annual International Family Tournament presented by QubicaAMF July 19-21, at Don Carter Lanes.

The entry deadline for both the All Star Tournament and Senior Women's U.S. Open has been extended until noon, July 17.

The BPAA Women's All Star Tournament is open to any USBC female member while the Senior Women's U.S. Open is open to all USBC female members age 50 and older. Bowlers in the All Star Tournament will be competing for a share of a $75,000 prize fund with a $15,000 first prize (based on 64 entries). The prize fund for the Senior Women's U.S. Open presented by Storm is $10,000 (based on 32 entries).

"We are excited to have both women's tournaments at one location this year," said BPAA Tournament chairman John Losito, adding, "Bowling fans will have a lot to see when they step into The Cherry Bowl to watch the competition. These women are truly among the best in the country."

Among the stars registered to compete include Diandra Asbaty, Brittni Hamilton, Liz Johnson, Kelly Kulick, Danielle McEwan, Wendy Macpherson, Shannon O'Keefe and Shannon Pluhowsky.

The super-packed week kicks off with a Super Sweeper on Saturday, July 19 followed by a Pro-Am event in the evening. On Sunday, July 20, after a day of practice rounds, bowlers and fans will enjoy a Ladies and Legendswelcome reception and dinner celebrating the history of women's professional bowling at Giovanni's, one of Rockford's finest restaurants. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are set aside for three rounds of qualifying, followed by Round 1 of match play Thursday morning with Round 2 in the evening. In between, the Senior Women's Stepladder followed by Triple Crown matches in the afternoon.

The competition comes to an exciting end Friday with the All Star Stepladder Final beginning at 11:00 a.m. local time.

The Women's All Star Tournament and Senior Women's U.S. Open are made possible by sponsors like Storm, The City of Rockford, Dexter, Ebonite, Turbo, High 5 Gear, Kegel, United States Bowling Congress, Bowling Proprietors' Association of America and Miller High Life, the official beer of bowling.

While the women are bowling, families will be competing as well," Losito said, "The International Family Tournament presented by QubicaAMF at Don Carter Lanes is the only sporting event in the United States in which parents participate with children for a national championship and scholarships for a significant amount of money, adding, "Last year 39 parent/youth teams and 38 parent/teen teams enjoyed three days of fun and friendly competition to take home a share of $70,000 in scholarship awards."

Parent/Youth and Parent/Teen teams qualify in local competitions held at participating BPAA member bowling centers and advance to state and regional finals to determine the teams that will compete in the national final.

As part of the weekend activities, contestants are treated to an opening and closing banquet, plus a Q & A and autograph session and special pro-am tournament with women professional bowlers.
