Bowling News USA - December 7, 2013 Thomas Larsen Wins First PBA Title in Abu Dhabi...Dom, Osku, Fourth, Fifth

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (Dec. 6, 2013) – Denmark’s Thomas Larsen captured his first Professional Bowlers Tour title, defeating Finland’s Mika Koivuniemi, 239-280, 247-204, in the title match of the Abu Dhabi World Bowling Tour Open at Khalifa Bowling Center Friday.
Larsen, who entered the modified stepladder finals as the top qualifier, lost the opening game against Koivuniemi, who had to defeat Larsen twice to win, but the 24-year-old Danish star rescued his first PBA International Tour title by winning the second game. In doing so, he also denied Koivuniemi a fourth PBA International Tour title during the 2012-13 season.
"I did well too in the first game, but Mika had better carry,” Larsen told Asian Bowling Federation representative Terrence Yaw. “In the second match, he made a few bad shots and that gave me the chance to win if I can focus on my game.
"I'm completely thrilled to have won my first World Tour title. In fact this is my first major title apart from one (European Bowling Tour) title I won this year."
In the preliminary matches, Hong Kong’s Wu Siu Hong won two opening “shootout” matches  and eliminated Storm's Dom Barrett in match three, but Koivuniemi ended his titles hopes in the semifinal match, 258-165.
Earlier in the season, Koivuniemi had won titles in the 2012 Qatar Open, 2012 Round1 Japan Cup and 2013 Vienna Open.
The World Bowling/PBA International Tour’s next stop will be the Qatar Open in Doha, Qatar, which concludes Tuesday, followed by the 7th International Kingdom Open at Universal Bowling Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Dec. 11-16 – the final event of the 2012-13 PBA Tour season.
