Bowling News USA - November 2, 2011 Frank Clark Takes Home the Hardware at the Huntsman World Senior Games with Storm!
At 70 years old, Frank Clark likes to keep active.
Recently, he participated in the 25th anniversary of the World Senior Games held in St. George, Utah. After competing in tennis and basketball in the first week of competition, without winning a medal, he took to the lanes the second week with hopes of coming home with some hardware. What Clark did was surpass his expectations by bringing home three medals!
Clark, who entered the tournament with a 188 average, won a gold medal in the mixed doubles event, a silver medal in the handicap singles event, and a bronze medal in the team handicap event.
During his gold medal performance in the mixed doubles event, Clark partnered with Martha Kinsman, from West Valley City, UT. Kinsman entered the tournament with a 138 average. Clark shot 716 scratch and Kinsman rolled a 357 scratch to take home the top prize.
In the handicap singles event, Clark missed out on his second gold by only 7 pins, shooting a 790 Handicap winning the silver medal. For his final medal, Clark shot a 530 scratch in the team handicap event which was his only set under 600 for the entire tournament which consisted of 25 games! He also just missed medaling in all events by 20 pins.
This was Clark’s second trip to the world senior games. “In my first trip to the Huntsman World Senior Games I didn’t feel that I was prepared,” commented Clark. “This time I spent time preparing both physically and mentally and performed much better.” Part of his preparation was practicing with his new ball, a Virtual Gravity Nano, which was given to him by Storm President, Dave Symes, in support of Clark’s quest.
In an effort to stay physically fit, Clark plays basketball with 25 – 35 year olds once a week when he is home in Tremonton, UT. He also spends time playing tennis, traveling, and visiting his eight kids and 18 grandkids!
The Huntsman Senior Games is held each October in St. George, Utah. Senior athletes from around the world gather together for two weeks of competition in 27 different sporting events including bowling. The event is made possible by thousands of volunteers and sponsorships provided by Jon M. Huntsman.
