Bowling News USA - June 30, 2011 Root Shannon on to Victory Tonight!

The 2011 Bowling's U.S. Women's Open, will come to a spectacular end this evening when the top 5 women will battle it out for the title and the $50,000 top prize midfield of the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The show will be broadcast on ESPN2's "Best and the Brightest," Saturday, July 2 at 6 p.m. ET.

In the opening match at the Cowboys Stadium, Storm's Shannon O'Keefe of Arlington and Lynda Barnes of Double Oak will square off. O'Keefe, the 2007 World Champion in Singles, leaped two places in the last block to finish in fourth place with 11446 including 270 bonus. O'Keefe, who rolled the 14th 300 game of the Open Tuesday night.

Host Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA) hopes the event will draw the largest crowd in bowling history. The current record stands at 7,212, set at the men's U.S. Open in 1995 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

The 2011 U.S. Women's Open drew a record field of 286 players from 17 countries and offered total prize fund of $225.000. The tournament winner receives a $50,000 purse plus 2 round trip tickets on American Airlines anywhere in the 48 continental states, a $5,000 gift certificate to Tiffany & Co. and a custom High 5 Gear Jersey.

The runner-up gets $25,000, third place is worth $15,000, the fourth-place finisher takes home $12,500 while the fifth-place finisher garners $10,000. If a competitor in the championship match rolls a 300, she will win $1 million.
