Bowling News USA - June 28, 2011 Storm's Jason Belmonte Nominated for ESPY

The PBA has announced that Storm International star Jason Belmonte has been nominated for bowling's ESPY award, (short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award). Each year the ESPY is presented by the American cable television network ESPN to recognize individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance during the calendar year preceding a given annual ceremony.

Belmonte had seven top-10 finishes in 2011 with best finish of third twice He ranked seventh in earnings ($65,050) and ninth in average (218.82). Belmonte finished sixth in Dick Weber PBA Playoffs, seventh in PBA World Championship and 10th in U.S. Open. He owns one career PBA title.

Belmonte has won numerous titles on the world stage including the 2007 World Tenpin Masters. He finished second in 2007 QubicaAMF World Cup and was th first player to qualify for World Ranking Masters in two zones. Belmo has gained enormous media attention for his unique two- handed style.

The first ESPYs were awarded in 1993. Because of the ceremony's rescheduling prior to the 2002 iteration thereof, awards presented in 2002 were for achievement and performances during the seventeen-plus months previous. As the similarly-styled Grammy (for music), Emmy (for television), and Academy Award (for film), the ESPYs are hosted by a contemporary celebrity; the style, though, is more relaxed, light, and self-referential than that of many other awards shows, with comedic sketches usually included. The host for the 2011 ESPYS is Seth Meyers and the head writer is Jonathan Drubner.
