Bowling News USA - April 6, 2011 Storm’s Kirsten Penny Inducted into World Hall of Fame
The committee of World Bowling Writers is pleased to announce that the 2010 inductees into the Hall of Fame for 2010 are Kirsten Penny of England and Finland's Mika Koivuniemi.
The presentation to Kirsten was made just prior to the finals of the Catalonia Open at Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona, Catalonia on Sunday, March 20 with Joan Ricard, president of the Catalonia Bowling Federation, Kim Thorsgaard Jensen, vice-president of the European Tenpin Bowling Federation and 2009 hall of famers Clara Guerrero of Colombia and Gery Verbruggen of Belgium.
The award recognizes the outstanding performance of Kirsten who has won many medals in World and European Championships from 1999 and also led the European Bowling Tour rankings and finished in third place in the AMF World Cup as well as winning many international tournaments.
“It's a great honor to be inducted,” said Kirsten. “I am very pleased for the recognition of my long and happily successful career so far , and I am looking forward to gaining even more success in the years to come. I would like to thank Storm for their continued support, and also my mum and dad for all their help, as well.”
Andy Penny, her father and internationally-respected coach, said “Shirley and I are immensely proud. As Keith reeled off the list of Kirsten's medal winning performances it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up on end, especially the World championship Gold in 2003.
“It brought back wonderful memories for me too, being on the podium as coach at the same time. “It doesn't get any better than that!”
