Bowling News USA - February 25, 2011 U.S Bowler All American Team
ARLINGTON, Texas - For the first time in his career, Team USA's Bill O'Neill of Southampton, Pa., has been named to the U.S Bowler All-America team.
O'Neill was the leading vote-getter after winning two titles on the Lumber Liquidators Professional Bowlers Association Tour in 2010 and three gold medals at the 2010 World Tenpin Bowling Association World Men's Championships. Voters for the All-America teams used statistics from the calendar year 2010 to make their decisions.
O'Neill totaled seven top-10 finishes on the PBA Tour in 2010, including victories at the U.S. Open and the PBA Viper Championship. He also won the singles, all-events and team gold medals at the World Championships in Munich, Germany.
Joining O'Neill on the men's All-America team are Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Ocala, Fla., Tommy Jones of Simpsonville, S.C., Mike Scroggins of Amarillo, Texas, and Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas. For Williams, it is his 18th appearance on the All-America team.
U.S Bowler, the official membership publication of the USBC, also recognizes five women and five senior All-Americans.
Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., was the women's top vote-getter after dominating the major women's events in 2010. In addition to topping the men at the PBA Tournament of Champions, Kulick won the USBC Queens and the U.S. Women's Open.
In earning her All-America spot for the fifth consecutive year, Kulick also won two gold medals (doubles and team) representing Team USA at the 2010 Pan American Bowling Confederation Women's Championships.
Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y., Roto Grip staffer Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of Keller, Texas, Wendy Macpherson of Henderson, Nev., and Shannon Pluhowsky of Kettering, Ohio, join Kulick on the women's team.
For the seniors, Wayne Webb of Columbus, Ohio, won three of the seven PBA Senior Tour events in which he competed and finished second in another.
Webb captured one of the PBA Senior Tour's major events, the USBC Senior Masters, while also claiming titles at the Senior Columbus Open and the Senior Jackson Open.
Joining Webb on the senior All-America team is Roto Grip staffer Tom Baker of King, N.C., Mark Williams of Beaumont, Texas, and Steve Ferraro of Kingston, N.Y. Rounding out the senior team is Walter Ray Williams Jr., who became the first player to earn a spot on the men's team and the senior team in the same year.
The U.S Bowler All-America teams are selected in voting by a national panel of bowling journalists, USBC Hall of Famers and USBC association leaders. Each All-American will be presented with a customized plaque.
