Bowling News USA - September 1, 2010 Rhino Page Brings Home 2 Medals From World Championships
PBA star and Storm staff member Rhino Page and Team USA were the gold standard at the 2010 World Championships. Page brought home two gold medals in his trip to Germany.
In the championship match Team USA dominated Team Mexico by the score of 650-514. Page was paired up with Patrick Allen and Wes Malott to bring home the gold medal. "This was just a total team effort, and it feels very, very cool," Page said. "I'm just so happy for us to be here right now with the gold medal. Trios is one event I have never won a gold medal in and to do it with Wes and PA means a lot to me."
"To be selected to bowl in the roll-off was an honor, "said Malott, "To come through for Rhino and PA means a lot. During the whole trios event they were really the ones who carried us as a team."
Page locked up his second gold medal an the alternate on five man team event. Team USA locked up its third consecutive team title by defeating Team Finland 1073 to 1057.
Anchor bowler Tommy Jones locked up the title for the Americans when he struck on the first shot in the final frame to outduel a Finnish team that erased a nearly triple-digit deficit in the final four frames at Dream Bowl Palace.
Jones led the Team USA effort with a 249 game and was followed by Wes Malott (245), Patrick Allen (202), Chris Barnes (194) and Bill O'Neill (183). Finland was led by Mika Koivuniemi with a 245 game and he was joined by Osku Palermaa (217), Joonas Jahi (214), Pasi Uotila (195) and Petteri Salonen (186).
Team USA's Chris Barnes defeated teammate Patrick Allen, 3-0, to win the gold medal at Dream Bowl Palace, completing a dominating week by the Americans. In all, Team USA took home 11 medals (five gold, two silver and four bronze).
