Bowling News USA - February 16, 2010 MATT MURTISHAW Rolls 39 Consecutive Strikes!

MURRIETA - The son of Anita and Jim (PBA Champion) Murtishaw rolled 39 consecutive strikes in certified league bowling at CAL OAKS BOWL the other night.  He finished his 6 PM league with twenty-two strikes, and a third game 300, then started up with seventeen strikes and a leadoff 300 game in his 9 PM league. Matt bowled on a different pair of lanes in each league.  Does anyone know if another bowler has bowled more consecutive strikes in certified (sanctioned) league play?  Let me know care of the Bowling News.

To some extent, Hall of Fame bowling columnist, Dick Evans got his wish on Matt's big night.  Evans has advocated that a bowler rolling a 900 series should have the opportunity to continue bowling after 36 strikes, to see how many consecutive strikes could be rolled.  Then we would know who really bowled the highest score of all-time.  Maybe Murtishaw holds the strike record!

As Matt continued striking the house was buzzing. Keglers from both leagues were looking on and cheering like crazy.  Matt was cool and collected and kept receiving high fives from the crowd, after each strike.  Everyone, including myself, thought Murtishaw would rattle off 58 in a row and a 900 series in the late league.

Anyway, back to back perfectos aren't too bad!  The perfect games were Matt's eighth and ninth, and all of them in the last two seasons.  He just started bowling again, two years ago, after ten years away from the sport.

Matt is just 23 years young.

In the early league Matt bowled 204 - 269 - 300 for 773.  In the late league he posted games of 300 - 246 - 206 for 752.  In practice last season, Matt finished with 34 strikes in a row, for games of 280 - 300 - 300 for 880!

Murtishaw used his Storm Reign™ ball in his early league and Storm Natural™ in the late league.  Both were drilled by his dad Jim, the proprietor of the FAST LANES PRO SHOP within Cal Oaks Bowl.

Matt is currently averaging 229, after bowling at a 220 clip last season.  Matt wishes to thank the BOWLING NEWS for supporting all league bowlers.
