Bowling News USA - October 21, 2009 Shalin Back in the Winner's Circle...

Storm International star Shalin Zulkifli hugged her husband Azidi Ameran at the Jaya Bowling Centre in Jakarta after ending her 25-month title drought by winning the Ancol Open Championships yesterday.

It was a much awaited victory for Shalin since winning her last “Open” title in the 2007 Hong Kong Open and she had Azidi to thank for it as he doubled-up as her coach in Jakarta.

Shalin defeated South Korea’s Park Jin Hee 202-172 in the women’s Masters final to claim the winner’s cheque of 50,000,000 rupiah (RM17,984 ) for her efforts.

Shalin earned an automatic place in the women’s final when she topped the Masters round with a 16-game total of 3,338 pinfalls.

The 31-year-old has not been winning titles regularly after competing in the Professional Bowler s’ Association (PBA) Women’s Tour over the past two seasons.

Teammate Zandra Aziela was second best performer when she finished sixth in the women’s category.

Meanwhile, Adrian Ang came close to claiming his second international title after last month’s European Tour’s Ankara Open triumph, in the men’s section. Adrian, however, was beaten by Australia’s George Frilingos but not before a fight.

The Malaysian forced a decider when he defeated the top seeded Australian 245-213. However, Adrian could not maintain his momentum and lost 225-212 to claim the second prize of 100,000,000 rupiah (RM35,968).

World Cup-bound Zulmazran Zulkifli finished a creditable fourth in the men’s event. The Malaysian bowlers will start their campaign in the Jakarta Super Classic on Tuesday.
