Bowling News USA - July 13, 2009 Paul Moor Victorious at Storm Marino Open

In a match between two European ranking champions, 3.-time winner Paul Moor (2004-06), England, defeated 4-time winner Gery Verbruggen (2000-03), Belgium, over two games total pinfall 425-395, to win the 5th Storm San Marino Open. Moor received the 10.000 Euro top prize and a 1.000 Euro bonus for leading the qualifying.

In an all-lefty affair, Moor took an 8-pin lead after game #1 (213-205) and cruised to his 11th European Bowling Tour title with a 212-190 in game #2.

Verbruggen received 6.000 Euro for second place. Semifinal losers Luca Osella, Italy, and Mads Sandbækken, Norway, received 3.500 for third and fourth place, resp.

Amanda Fagan, United States, who was the top-ranked woman in 27th place, won the women's rankings in San Marino. Dominic Barrett, England, rolled the third 300-game of the tournament (Dennis Ekund, Sweden, had two perfectos in qualifying) to lead Final Round 2, but fell to Sandbækken in the opening match play round.

Moor, who bypassed the first two rounds of the final, eliminated World Doubles champions Martin Larsen and Robert Andersson and ousted Sandbækken in the semifinal. Verbruggen, who got one bye, finished third in Final Round 2, then sidelined PBA super star Mika Koivuniemi, Swedish standout Raymond Jansson and No.2 qualifier Osella on his road to the championship match.
