Bowling News USA - June 12, 2009 George Frilingos Shoots 300 in the TV finals to win 2009 Melbourne Tenpin Cup

Australian international George Frilingos bowled a 300 game using his Storm Virtual Gravity in the deciding game in front of the "Tenpin Bowling Show Australia" TV cameras en route to win the 2009 Melbourne Tenpin Cup June 8th at Oz Tenpin and Entertainment Center in Melbourne, Australia.
Frilingos, who barely made the first cut to the top 16 in 16th place with 1990 9-game total and an average of 221.11, powered his way into the lead during the 15-game match play round starting from scratch.
Frilingos earned the No. 1 seed for the six-player stepladder finals with 3662 including 160 bonus and the field-best 233.47 average for 15 games. Qualifying leader Andrew Thorpe (2147, 238.56) was second with 3640, with James Bowles in third at 3587.
In the opening shootout match between the players seeded 4th through 6th, No. 4 Brett Smith defeated No. 5 Chis Castle and No. 6 Paul Trotter, 245-217-223.
Smith fell to Bowles in the second match, 244-225, who lost to Thorpe in the semifinal, 236-231.
Thorpe, who must defeat tournament leader Frilingos twice to win the title, carried the momentum into the title match and flew past Frilingos, 228-172, to force a deciding second game.
Frilingos, however, recovered from the defeat and did he put on a show! When it came to the 12th frame instead of getting tense, he turned around to the crowd who where dead quiet awaiting the final ball, and asked them to clap loudly and make lots of noise.
This worked at calming his nerves Frilingos said later and he completed the final frame to the roar of a crowd that surged forward to shake his hand.
"This is my 35th 300 game," Frilingos said "and great to win the cup, but made even more enjoyable because it was captured on film. My dad will be over the moon to watch this."
Tony Drexel, creator, producer, editor & director of the Tenpin Bowling Show Australia was delighted with the show. "Oz Tenpin did a top job at running this tournament and congratulations to George Frilingos on his winning 300 game. A first on Australian Television for the Tenpin Bowling Show.
"The Melbourne Cup stepladder finals will shown in full commencing in about four weeks on all Australian Community Television stations, and free online at www.tvs.org.au.
