Bowling News USA - May 22, 2009 Meet Scott Scriver of VirtualTournaments.com

5 Questions with VirtualTournaments.com Scott Scriver!
1. What is a Virtual Tournament and why should bowlers enter?
A Virtual Tournament is defined by the USBC as a "mail-o-graphic" type tournament. A mail-o-graphic tournament is one in which scores are submitted from separate or the same competition, bowling establishment or association and are compared to qualify for prizes in one common prize list. We have simplified this process by utilizing the internet rather than the mail. This allows bowlers to compete on a national level without having to ever leave their home bowling center.
2. Why should bowlers bowling the USBC Tournament in Las Vegas be interested in the USBC Virtual Tournament?
The Storm / Roto Grip Nationals Challenge is a Tournament within a Tournament that provides an additional prize fund, along with brackets, sidepots and eliminator formats. We offer both Singles and Doubles, Handicap and Scratch Divisions.
3. How did the Virtual Tournament concept originate?
In 1998, the development of LeagueSecretary.com provided a central source of weekly league scores. Utilizing the LeagueSecretary.com database, we came up with an idea to form a natoinal tournament using those scores. In 2001, we launched the VirtualTournaments.com website. We have since expanded the Tournament to include leagues that do not utilize LeagueSecretary.com. In Sept 2009, we will be expanding the VirtualTournaments.com services to the Youth Bowling community providing them with the ability to win scholarship money.
4. How has the partnership with Storm Products helped the Virtual Tournament events? How did the Virtual Gravity/Virtual Tournament campaign get started?
The partnership with Storm / Roto Grip has helped tremendously in marketing efforts. It has allowed us to reach bowlers who may not yet have heard about VirtualTournaments.com. The Virtual In Vegas program was a concept presented to VirtualTournaments.com by Roger Noordhoek. Storm wanted to utilize our technology and run their own virtual tournament.
5. How can Virtual Tournaments help competitive bowling?
VirtualTournaments.com helps introduce tournament competition to bowlers who would not normal travel to attend tournaments. As they get use to competing in a Tournament, they are then more open to attend traditional style tournaments. Extending the services of our virtual tournament to the youth bowling community would assist those that can no longer afford to travel to different centers to attend tournaments. We feel we can provide a valuable and more affordable alternative to the traditional scholarship tournaments.
