Bowling News USA - April 24, 2009 Boomershine and Friends Rocket to USBC Women's lead...

Classic teammates Tammy Boomershine, Cathy Dorin-Lizzi, Andrea Fleming, Lynda Barnes, and Carolyn Dorin-Ballard are all smiles after moving into first place team.
RENO, Nev. - Three years after setting the all-time team record at the United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships, Together Once Again of Keller, Texas, rolled into the National Bowling Stadium on Thursday and proved the first time was no fluke.
After a subpar start, Together Once Again rallied in the final two games to overtake the lead with a 3,322 total, second in tournament history only to the 3,350 they shot in 2006 at the National Bowling Stadium.
Tammy Boomershine led the effort with a 732 series and was followed by Andrea Fleming (689), Cathy Dorin-Lizzi (663), Carolyn Dorin-Ballard (631) and Lynda Barnes (607). Together Once Again managed just a 1,016 opening game, but finished with games of 1,158 and 1,148.
"It felt good coming back to the National Bowling Stadium to do this," Dorin-Lizzi said. "We share a combined 25 years of friendship, and it shows on more than just the lanes. Yes, it is prestigious to win something together, but it is more important to be together. This is my family to me."
Together Once Again came into their squad knowing it would take a similar effort to three years ago if they were going to make a run at winning the title. On Wednesday night, Alpha Pool Plastering of Newhall, Calif., shot 3,286 behind an 805 series from Robin Romeo. At the time, it stood as the second best in tournament history.
Dorin-Ballard said working together helped her team into the lead.
"There is nothing better than to bowl well for yourself and know that you are doing it for four other people, too," Dorin-Ballard said. "Our goal was to stick together long enough to win a title together. If that happens again this year, we will just have to stay together anyway and win again. This keeps bowling alive for us."
